Properities: dark red powder or oily liquid, the color of oil solution is yellow orange. Excellent heat resistance and light-fastness. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and oil. It belongs to Carotene pigments. Its pure form is the needle-like dark red crystal (from a mixture of carbon disulfide and ethanol precipitation of persons). Melting point is 174℃, combustible. Soluble in carbon disulfide (1g/50ml), boiling ether (1g/3L), hexane (1g/14L, 0℃). Soluble in chloroform and benzene, slightly soluble in ethanol and methanol, indissolve in water.
